Galengrat – Hannibalturm *****
Once upon a time the red tower emerged out of a snow covered glacier. Those days are gone. What remains, however, are wonderful routes in the best of granite. Most of the routes are Plaisir. GWS-Direct is an exception. The best part of the route is a 30m long finger crack. Above “Hannibal” are other routes for seasoned trad climbers. The Galengrat Dihedral has long been a popular classic climb. Unfortunatey, the glacier has been receding at an alarming rate making the climb only approachable in early summer. Huge unstable boulders on the glacier later in the year pose a serious hazard reaching the base of the climb.
