Lonza ***

This is the new Upper Wallis hot spot! During the Covid Pandemic, Rino Wuthrich and Silvan Biffiger equipped “Lonza Beach”. Skill, finger power, and good footwork are needed to tackle the intricate moves up this super smooth mid section of the wall without coming off. The routes on the left side are steep and pumpy with good holds. The down canyon winds out of the Lotschen Valley provide better grips on hot days. A litte bit further up canyon, Eric Pointner and Raoul Bayard have opened up a few more routes: “Momentum” (8a) climbs through the big roof and it is steeper than it looks! The reservoir is flushed in August every summer. Check for signage at the sediment collector as to when that happens. Beware that the water levels can then suddenly rise dramatically. Daily variance in the water levels may also occur.
