Gross Sättelistock ****

Approach, rock quality, and protection on the Gross Sattelistock is very similar to the famous Wendenstock, only the dimensions are smaller. The rock with its many horizontal slits is reminiscent of the Ofen in Melchtal and is practically made for climbing! Sami Speck and friends put up the excellent route “Physical Gravity” as well as the no less beautiful variation “Stecknadel”. Being south facing, late Fall climbing here is often possible. The steep approach trail should be free of snow as it can become dangerously slippery. Descent is best via rappelling down the buttress.
