Along with Oberried and Niederthai, Engelswand is the largest and most popular climbing crag in the Ötztal valley. The high walls rise vertically from flat meadows and attract climbers with their wonderful gneiss rock and impressive lines. You might think it's the perfect crag. Unfortunately, Engelswand also has a downside: there is a risk of rockfall from higher up, which is why you should only stay close to the wall and not use the meadow as a playground, no matter how tempting it may be. In summer, the sun shines on the wall from around 1 p.m., after which it usually gets too hot for climbing, unless it is windy, and it is best to move on to Oberried.
