Petit Clocher du Portalet *****

In the past few years, an ascent of this wonderful granite needle has become huge. Suddenly, after the FFA of “Historie San Fin” (8b+) and “La Promesse De L’aube” (8c) photos of perfect cracks, micro edges, and sharp aretes were flying around the world. The Mont Blanc granite is of the highest quality. Most of the routes demand full engagement and require exacting gear placing skills. The Cabane d’ Orny is cozy and great for longer stays. If the routes on the Petit Clocher du Portalet seem too short, you can try to combine the “Crettenand/Roduit” on the Pinnacle du Portalet and the “Nouvelle ere”. Before you decide to take on this monster sized climb, it might be a good idea to reassess your own fitness levels….as you won’t find any aid stations or refreshments along the way!
